San Juan Islands Washington State

The San Juan Islands are usually cold, windy, and rainy during the winter months, but the views are spectacular.  The hotels are inexpensive compared to the hustle and bustle of the summer months.

You can enjoy a warm cozy room on a rainy day while watching the boats in the harbor.  I find that my favorite place is Rosario Resort on Orcas Island.  Over the years we have found that we enjoy the quiet time and intimacy of the location during the months of January and February.  Rosario Resort has a lot of history and the last time we visited we bought music from the local Manager who played the piano/organ.

Seattle Mayor and Shipbuilder Robert Moran built the mansion at Rosario Resort after the turn of the century.  You can actually visualize the croquet parties that must have taken place out on the lawn that is lined with the old-style lighting.  It is a beautiful place in winter and summer.

It's also rumored that the wife of a previous Owner (Rheem) still resides there as a ghost. Some say she wears red pjs and rides a loud Harley.

It's really not spooky, just beautiful and comfortable.  Can't wait to go back!

Seattle Aquarium 2018

Seattle Aquarium We loved visiting the Seattle Aquarium this past summer. There was so much variety and the exhibits were bursting with colors as pictured below: I think pictures tell a story sometimes as much as words. The staff at the Aquarium can be just as entertaining!  If you haven't ever visited this great venue in Seattle, then you are missing out on a very educational experience. It is conveniently located at Pier 59 on the Elliott Bay waterfront among the quaint shops that line the harbor area. Check out their website Seattle Aquarium  for events, tickets, and location. It is fun for the whole family.   If you are a tourist or Washington resident that loves to be a tourist in this awesome city, then check out the discount tickets at  CityPass . You can get unbelievable package deals for the hottest attractions in Seattle, including the Seattle Center, Space Needle, Argosy tours and Chihuly Gard...

Norway's Midnight Sun

Holding the Midnight Sun Norway was our destination.   My husband and I spent two weeks exploring the cities of Bergen and Trondheim as well as the Islands along the western fjords.   Our Norwegian relative tour guides told us we could not leave Norway without experiencing their midnight sun. We searched for the best place on one of the Islands and found it! The midnight sun was glowing across the horizon off the coast of Norway deep into the summer night.   There was a thrill just for being on top of ancient rocks that lined the coast of the Atlantic as the light was starting to fade in the distant horizon.   Our words and laughter seemed to echo across the rocks as the waves crashed high into the air.   We were not only enjoying the view but the sounds and smell of the open air of the salty ocean.    The glowing sun became a light in our hands as we stood and faced the camera.   As a couple we “held” the sun ...

Island Hopping in Washington State for 10 Days

Orcas Island, Washington State Here's a detailed 10-day island-hopping itinerary in Washington State, focusing on cultural experiences, food, historical sites, and staying within a $300-$400 daily budget. This itinerary assumes you're starting and ending in Seattle, and it factors in ferry costs, accommodation, food, and activities.  It also assumes you're renting a car for flexibility (crucial for island exploration). Important Notes: *    Ferry Reservations:   ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL, especially in peak season (summer). Make reservations well in advance at [ https://wsdot.wa.gov/ferries](https://wsdot.wa.gov/ferries) .  Book round-trip tickets where possible. *    Accommodation:   This itinerary suggests a mix of budget-friendly hotels, charming B&Bs, and potentially some camping (to save money). Prices can fluctuate, so book in advance.  I've estimated costs based on average prices, but always check for deals. *    Food:   ...
